DIRECTOR / WRITER

Josh McGowan is a filmmaker who came up wanting to make features and never stopped building things that way. He treats every project like a film, where the smallest gestures carry the most weight. He's directed Kerry Washington, Regina King, J.J. Watt, and plenty of people who've never been on a set, children included. Whatever the form, he's after the same thing: people you believe.

His work includes "Hi, My Name is Scott," a dramedy ESPN commissioned, based on the true story of an alcoholic whose life was saved by fantasy football; "Shadows of Greatness," a film following pro boxer Sena Agbeko and his push for a mainstream debut in the US; and award-winning brand campaigns for the likes of Ram, ESPN, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Audi and Birchbox.

Before he directed anything, he worked in development under Academy Award-winning producer Edward Saxon (Philadelphia, The Silence of the Lambs, Adaptation) and then as a creative director at a boutique agency. Both jobs honed his storytelling chops and collaborative spirit.

Josh lives in Nashville with his wife and young children. He's at work on his next script.
